HCLC shortlisted for prestigious 'excellence' awards!
We are delighted to announce that Hackney Community Law Centre (HCLC) has been shortlisted for two of this year’s Law Society Excellence Awards!
HCLC has been shortlisted in the ‘Excellence in Innovation’ category following the launch of our Community Law Shops ‘pop-up’ advice service, which takes place every Monday between 2pm and 5pm in Hackney Central Library.
HCLC solicitor Paul Heron (pictured above) has also been shortlisted in the ‘Solicitor of the year – in house’ category.
The winners will be announced by BBC broadcaster Mishal Husain at a black-tie dinner and presentation ceremony, which will take place on October 18th at Old Billingsgate, London.
The Law Society Excellence Awards reward the most outstanding practitioners in the legal profession and are open to the entire legal sector, not just solicitors. Entries were judged earlier this month by specialist judges, including Adam Sampson, former Chief Executive of housing charity Shelter, now Chief Executive of the Legal Ombudsman; Frances Gibb, legal editor at The Times; and Chris Marston, head of professional practices at Lloyds TSB.
Commenting on HCLC's shortlisting for the excellence awards, HCLC Chair Ian Rathbone said: “The fact that the Law Centre has been shortlisted for the Law Society's 2012 ‘Excellence in Innovation’ category in its prestigious annual awards is a great encouragement to our team who are working hard to continue to serve the Hackney community and find new ways to help reach the ever more needy as the recession continues to bite into people's lives. And the shortlisting of our team member Paul Heron for solicitor-in house of the year is a tribute to the hard work and the excellent quality of legal help given by Paul and the rest of the team”.
Law Society president Lucy Scott-Moncrieff said of this year’s entries: “The quality of this year’s entries is astonishingly high and a testament to the fact that the profession continues to innovate and deliver high-quality legal services even in these economically challenging times. “The marketplace is changing quickly, with greater external pressure and competition, so it’s great to see that firms are showing no signs of complacency. Far from it, this year’s entries show that the UK legal sector continues to spearhead solutions that allow it to stay at the top of the game. I take great pride in announcing a shortlist of such outstanding firms, teams and individuals.”
