Working with young people
Hackney Community Law Centre (HCLC) is particularly pleased to help young people (aged 13–21, or older if they are especially vulnerable) with legal advice and assistance in any of the four areas of social welfare law in which we work.
The Youth Advice Project is an outreach project aimed at helping young people (16-21) with legal advice and assistance in any of the four areas of social welfare in which we work.
HCLC understands that whilst many young people need legal advice they don’t access it through the mainstream adult service. This can be for a variety of reasons, from lack of awareness to mistrust of adults.
We believe that specialist provision is needed to effectively meet young people’s advice needs. This includes delivering advice in young people friendly settings, training professionals working with young people in identifying legal issues and establishing good referral networks.
We therefore provide outreach sessions through Face2Face in Waltham Forest to help young people who have found themselves without a home due to personal circumstances such as relationship breakdown, abuse or neglect.
We also intend to spread the service in Hackney also
We are able to offer confidential legal advice to help young people understand their rights as well as practical information with regards to issues that can arise with homelessness, and access to welfare benefits.
