The Telephone Advice Line - 020 8985 8364
The Advice Line is unique in the London Borough of Hackney; it acts as an immediate point of contact for people with legal problems. So it is a very valuable service and is very busy. The Law Centre relies totally on public funding and the Advice Line is funded by Hackney Council and we thank them for their continued support.
The Advice Line is one of the ways that the public can access the Law Centre. It supports the reception ‘drop in’, second-tier referrals (outside agencies such as the Citizens Advice Bureau and social services) and some of the outreach work the Law Centre undertakes.
Hackney Community Law Centre (HCLC) is part of the Public Service Promise (PSP). The PSP is an initiative by Hackney Council to bring all government and community organisations together, so collectively, we have a responsibility to do our best when dealing with the public.
We have an obligation to ensure quality of service we strive to assist in resolving legal problems over the phone and where we are unable to do that that we sign-post an agency that can assist.
We operate the service with a mixture of Law Centre staff and trained legal volunteers. It is therefore not possible to deal with complex and in-depth legal queries over the telephone; however we can direct callers to Law Centre or external solicitors through direct referrals for more in depth casework.
Rest assured that the telephone line is a confidential service and no other agencies or organisations are contacted unless the caller has asked for or consented for this to be done.
- The line operates from Monday – Friday 10.00 a.m. – 1.00 p.m.
- Monday to Thursday – Generalist Advice
- Friday – Specialist Immigration Advice
The advice line also supports the HIAC network of advisers in Hackney, which includes the local Citizens Advice Bureau (CAB), Age Concern, Hoxton Legal Advice Trust and Hackney Marsh Partnership.
