We're recruiting for new interns!

7/12/2015

Lord Low and HCLC interns(HCLC Patron Lord Low of Dalston CBE with current HCLC interns Primily Jo Malanum, Emily Messier,  Sorubiha Kamalanathan and Onika Philip-Adams at the House of Lords)

Hackney Community Law Centre is looking for 3 dedicated people to join our team as HCLC interns in the week beginning January 25th 2015 until the week beginning April 11th 2016.

Our internship is a three-month fixed programme. HCLC interns work in the Law Centre 4 days a week between 10am and 5.30 pm. Working with our highly experienced team of solicitors and caseworkers, interns contribute to the work of the Centre by:

  • Undertaking research, casework and drafting as directed by solicitors;
  • Attending at outreach and drop-in sessions to see clients with solicitors;
  • Diagnostic triage on the Centre’s telephone advice line to be supervised by solicitors;
  • Attending courts and tribunals with or under direction by solicitors and fee earners;
  • Work with other volunteers to enhance their involvement in the work of the Centre.

Applicants must be available to start the internship in the week beginning 25th January 2016, be able to commit to the full 12 week programme, and be willing to abide by the Centres policies and procedures. The interns are paid a weekly stipend.

The overall purpose of HCLC's internship programme is to give an overview of what working in a busy inner-city Law Centre is like. For this reason, the internships are aimed at graduates (LL.B or GDL completed) who are now looking for pupillages or training contracts.

Qualified solicitors / barristers who have completed pupillage/a training contract will not be considered. We expect our interns to have an understanding of equal opportunities and be willing to interact directly with the diverse groups and third parties who use our service.

An excellent command of English (spoken/written) as well as basic computer skills are essential. Our legal work is mainly in the legal aid, social welfare field: housing (landlord and tenant), welfare benefits and immigration. We have a small but growing employment law department which is totally funded by Trust for London.

If you would like to apply please send your v to bella@hclc.org.uk with the subject heading 'HCLC INTERNSHIP JANUARY 2016', indicating that you have read the advert and would like to be considered for an internship with us.

The deadline to send in your CV is 10am on Monday 4th January 2016.

Interviews will be conducted during the week of 11th January 2016.

Internships will commence in the week beginning 25th January and end in the week beginning 4th April 2016.

We look forward to hearing from you!
