London Legal Walk 2012!

On Monday May 21st 2012, Hackney Community Law Centre was extremely proud to participate in the 2012 London Legal Walk organised by the London Legal Support Trust.  This year’s walk saw more than 6000 people take part and more than £500,000 raised!

The London Legal Walk is a 10km sponsored walk around some of London’s legal landmarks.  It is (probably!) the largest annual gathering of lawyers in the world.

Walking in teams as their court, law firm or chambers, law college or in-house legal department, walkers raise hundreds of thousands of pounds for agencies who provide free legal advice to those in desperate need and who cannot afford to pay for services that assist, for example, young people in poverty, homeless people, trafficked women and children, those with mental illnesses, older or disabled people needing community care.  In the past, the money raised has even helped to create new services in boroughs where none existed.

In 2012, participants included:

Lord Judge—The Lord Chief Justice - Lord Neuberger—The Master of the Rolls - Dominic Grieve QC MP—The Attorney General - Keir Starmer QC—The Director of Public Prosecutions - The Presidents of the Law Society of England and Wales - CILEx and the Chairman of the Bar Council

Below is a selection of photos we took on the walk:
